Releasing items & claim keys

A code you’ve made isn’t claimable until you release it. Releasing flips a pre-registered draft into a live product a customer can add to their own account — optionally protected by a key so only the right buyer can claim it.

Three kinds of key — which is which

Zenhoko uses a few different credentials and they’re easy to mix up. Here’s each one and when it applies:

Claim key

Creator → customer. A key you set when releasing a product code. The buyer types it to claim the item into their account. It’s re-viewable, so you can print it on packaging or a card in the box.

Sheet secret key

Whole gang sheet. One key that protects an entire gang sheet, so whoever receives the sheet can register all its stickers at once.

Transfer code

Person → person. Not a creator feature — this is for handing an item you already own to someone else. It’s covered in Transfers & ownership.

Releasing a code

    Move it to the release step

    In your creator dashboard, moving a code into the final workflow step is what releases it. Its status becomes released and its QR goes live — a scan now resolves to a real, claimable item page.

    Choose how it’s claimed

    When you release, you pick one of two:

    • • With a claim key — enter your own or generate one. Only someone with the key can claim it. Recommended for anything you sell.
    • • Open claim — the first person to scan and claim gets it. Simple, but anyone who scans could take it.

    Keys can be short but should be printed, not guessed

    A claim key can be as short as 3 characters, so it fits on a card or engraving. It’s re-viewable any time before the item is claimed, so you never lose it.

    Release whole sheets at once

    Working from a gang sheet? You can release every sticker on it in one action and arm a single sheet secret key, instead of releasing codes one by one.

What the buyer does

From the customer’s side it’s a single screen. They scan the tag (or open Register an existing tag), sign in or create a free account, enter the claim key if you set one, and the item is theirs. From that moment they own it — they get the finder messages and control the details.

After a claim, the item is private to the buyer

Once claimed, you no longer see the item’s details or the owner’s info — unless the code is identity-locked (engraved), which keeps a permanent maker link. That trade-off is described in the creator guide.
